Founded in 2002 by Ntone Edjabe<\/a>, the Cape Town, South Africa-based platform of writing, art and politics has many formats: In addition to the magazine “Chimurenga Magazine<\/a>,” there is “The Chronic,”<\/a> a quarterly, large-format newspaper. For example, one issue is devoted to “<\/a> The invention of Zimbabwe”<\/a>. In 2014<\/a> and 2016<\/a>, a total of two German-language editions of “Chronic” were published; both copies are compilations of translated articles from different editions:<\/p>\n

“Drawing together a myriad voices from across Africa and the diaspora, <\/span>Chimurenga <\/span><\/i>takes many forms operating as an innovative platform for free ideas and political reflection about Africa by Africans.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

With the “Chimurenga Library”<\/a> there is also an extensive collection of “African” art and literature magazines and fanzines from all over the world, you can read more about it here. Another project is the “African Cities Reader<\/a>,” a collaboration with the African Centre for Cities<\/a> at the University of Cape Town. This publication series on phenomena, stories and perspectives of urban life in Africa is presented here in<\/a> more detail. Activism<\/em> and Artivism of<\/em> the “Chimurenga”-makers<\/a> are made audible in the context of the Pan-Africa-Radio-Station (PASS)<\/a>.
