{"id":7970,"date":"2018-09-12T04:05:09","date_gmt":"2018-09-12T04:05:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mangoes-and-bullets.org\/chimurenga\/"},"modified":"2018-09-12T04:05:09","modified_gmt":"2018-09-12T04:05:09","slug":"chimurenga","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mangoes-and-bullets.org\/en\/chimurenga\/","title":{"rendered":"Chimurenga"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Founded in 2002 by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ntone_Edjabe\">Ntone Edjabe<\/a>, the Cape Town, South Africa-based platform of writing, art and politics has many formats: In addition to the magazine <a href=\"https:\/\/chimurengachronic.co.za\/\">&#8220;Chimurenga Magazine<\/a>,&#8221; there is <a href=\"http:\/\/chimurengachronic.co.za\/\">&#8220;The Chronic,&#8221;<\/a> a quarterly, large-format newspaper. For example, one issue is devoted to <a href=\"http:\/\/chimurengachronic.co.za\/the-invention-of-zimbabwe-new-edition-of-chimurengas-chronic-available-now\/\">&#8220;<\/a> The invention of <a href=\"http:\/\/chimurengachronic.co.za\/the-invention-of-zimbabwe-new-edition-of-chimurengas-chronic-available-now\/\"> Zimbabwe&#8221;<\/a>. In<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chimurenga.co.za\/product\/special-german-language-edition-of-the-chronic-may-2014\"> 2014<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chimurenga.co.za\/product\/chronic-german-edition-october-2016\">2016<\/a>, a total of two German-language editions of &#8220;Chronic&#8221; were published; both copies are compilations of translated articles from different editions:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Drawing together a myriad voices from across Africa and the diaspora,<span class=\"apple-converted-space\"> <\/span><i>Chimurenga<span class=\"apple-converted-space\"> <\/span><\/i>takes many forms operating as an innovative platform for free ideas and political reflection about Africa by Africans.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>With the <a href=\"https:\/\/chimurengachronic.co.za\/about-the-chimurenga-library\/\">&#8220;Chimurenga Library&#8221;<\/a> there is also an extensive collection of &#8220;African&#8221; art and literature magazines and fanzines from all over the world, you can read more about it here. Another project is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africancitiesreader.org.za\/about.php\">&#8220;African Cities Reader<\/a>,&#8221; a collaboration with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africancentreforcities.net\/\">African Centre for Cities<\/a> at the University of Cape Town. This publication series on phenomena, stories and perspectives of urban life in Africa is presented <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mangoes-and-bullets.org\/african-cities-reader\/\">here in<\/a> more detail. <em>Activism<\/em> and <em>Artivism of<\/em> the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chimurenga.co.za\/about-us\">&#8220;Chimurenga&#8221;-makers<\/a> are made audible in the context of the <a href=\"http:\/\/panafricanspacestation.org.za\/\">Pan-Africa-Radio-Station (PASS)<\/a>.
