Dieser begann 1983 mit an Tamil*innen ver\u00fcbten Pogrom durch die singhalesische Bev\u00f6lkerung\/Regierung. Er endete offiziell 2009. Im Zentrum steht dabei Ratnams Onkel, welcher sich gezwungen sah in den bewaffneten Widerstand gegen das gewaltsame singhalesische Unterdr\u00fcckungssystem zu gehen. Insbesondere das letzte Drittel des Films geht auf die Gewalt der LTTE (Befreiungstiger von Tamil Ealam) gegen\u00fcber anderen tamilischen Widerstandsgruppen und deren Unterst\u00fctzer*innen ein.<\/p>\n<p>Auch wenn der B\u00fcrgerkrieg offiziell sein Ende fand, gibt es bislang keine befriedigende Aufkl\u00e4rung der begangenen Verbrechen. Tamil*innen werden weiterhin seitens der singhalesischen Mehrheitsgesellschaft und Regierung diskriminiert.
