“Young, Gifted and Black” by Jamia Wilson, illustrated by Andrea Pippin, is a book for children that features 52 influential Black people and their accomplishments.

Among the personalities are politically important people such as Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and Rosa Parks, but also public figures such as Stevie Wonder and Serena Williams.

The book does not explicitly challenge racism and other relations of domination. By (positively) portraying Black personalities, it can still be used to inspire, empower, and encourage young people of color in particular, ages 7 to 10 or so.
