The youth magazine Fluter of the Federal Agency for Civic Education has published an issue (No. 59) with the title topic ” Africa”. The issue contains several interesting articles that deal in a differentiated way with current social issues, (global) political relations, recent developments, ongoing power relations and popular culture in African countries, e.g. Kenya, Nigeria or Malawi. Unfortunately, Africans themselves hardly have a say in the articles. Instead, the text contributions seem to be written exclusively by (white) Europeans. With her famous collection of essays, “Playing in the Dark,” author and first Black Nobel laureate Toni Morrison laid a milestone in critical racism studies and academic “Studies of Critical Whiteness.” The volume contains the three essays “Black Matters,” “Swarming from the Shadows,” and “Disturbing Nurses and the Kindness of Sharks.” In these, Morrison engages with classics of white U.S. literature and examines how and to what extent black people are represented. Apache Stronghold is an Apache campaign to save the sacred places of Oak Flat and Apache Leap from the international mining company Resolution Copper. It is a fight for human rights, for religious freedom, and for the preservation of Apache heritage and identity. These sacred places to Apache, along with many others, were included in a U.S. Senate deal with foreign corporations without consulting Native American communities. Unsettling America is a network for spiritual, mental, psychological and territorial decolonization. The Decolonizing Yoga website grew out of protests against the Yoga Journal Conference that was to be held at the Hyatt Hotel in San Francisco in 2013. Employees of the hotel, as well as community-based projects and initiatives, conducted an ongoing boycott of the Hyatt Hotel to protest employee working conditions. Part of the protest was a community yoga exercise held during a rally in front of the hotel. As a result, several hundred people joined the protest and pledged not to actively support or attend the Yoga Journal Conference.
