Finally Growth provides a method for a privilege test on escape and freedom of movement on its website.

“In the method, different motivations for cross-border mobility are contrasted. The participants collect personal reasons ‘to live for a longer time in another country’ as well as reasons ‘why people flee’. Based on this, an examination of own privileges, global social inequality as well as the topics of flight and freedom of movement takes place.” (Method Description, Finally Growth)

The background to the privilege test is the existing strong interactions between economic activities in the Global North and living conditions in the Global South. The existing social inequality means different life chances and privileges – especially in the area of mobility. While it is completely normal for most people in Germany to be able to move around without restriction, freedom of movement is often severely restricted for people from other regions of the world. This also applies to the majority of the more than 60 million people who are currently on the run. (See Background to the Privilege Test on Finally Growing).

On Finally Growing you will find instructions on how to perform and evaluate the exercise. Moderation cards as well as working materials and background texts can be downloaded from the website.
