5826691500001Z“Afrokids” by Olaolu Fajembola is the first “baby and children’s guide” aimed at caregivers of Black children in Germany. In the book, the author addresses specific everyday situations and challenges that are rarely addressed in other guidebooks: for example, choosing a name, multilingualism, and dealing with racism. Olaolu Fajembola’s book is dedicated to young people, a group that has so far been ignored by the advice literature.

“These kids who have Black and/or White parents need informed parents. Parents who can explain in child-friendly terms what racism is and how it works. Parents who can answer the question, ‘Mom, will you make me cornrows?” with a confident ‘Yes!” and parents who aren’t afraid to give their child an African name.” Book description of the publisher

The book will be published in October 2016 and can be pre-ordered here.
