Am I guilty? is an interview project that addresses the deep-rooted racism in all sectors of society in Germany and aims to contribute to its visibility. For this purpose, experts with experience of racism from different fields will be interviewed. The focus is on the question “How are we – as part of a white German society – directly or indirectly guilty of racism?”

The initiative grew out of a seminar entitled “Debt in Africa” at Humboldt University Berlin’s Institute for Asian and African Studies. While the seminar dealt with debt in an economic-economic sense, the project will deal with the issues of moral debt and responsibility.

The focus is on the experiences of those affected. These are intended to inform users of the website and encourage them to critically examine themselves and their own environment. The aim is to provide a low-threshold introduction to anti-racist work.

The five interviews cover the areas of racism in Germany and the work of the Initiative Black People in Germany, racism in the German education system, racism in textbooks, racism in Germany and educational work critical of racism.

Interviewed were:
Tahir Della (Board of the Initiative Black People in Germany, ISD)
Daniel Gyamerah (Board of Directors of Each One Teach One e.V.)
Josephine Apraku (Africanist)
Prof. Dr. Gökçe Yurdakul (Professor of Diversity and Social Conflict at the Humboldt University of Berlin)
Iris Rajanayagam (Educational work critical of racism)
