6-year-old Nuri fled to Germany with her parents to escape the war in Iraq. Nuri is an outsider at school, the other children throw her lunch in the trash. In numerous letters to her aunt Marwa, the girl tells of her worries and fears and confides her secrets to her. One day Nuri receives a story rug from her father – just like Aunt Marwa used to have. With its help, she can now enchant the children in her school with her stories.
With “Nuri and the Story Carpet” Andrea Karimé tells the story of a bright girl who fled to Germany with her family. After initial difficulties and experiences of rejection and exclusion by fellow students, the children finally succeed in creating a respectful coexistence. The book is illustrated with colorful, lively pictures and recommended for children aged about 10 years.
