The teaching folder “People.Use.Nature. deals with the handling of raw material wealth in Latin America/Abya Yala. It was developed by the Center for InterAmerican Studies (CIAS) at Bielefeld University.

The authors write:
“Using various case studies such as oil production in the Ecuadorian Amazon or the topic of coal as a global energy resource, the treatment of nature is questioned. Political as well as economic aspects of disputes about the use of raw materials are considered and contradictions are pointed out. At the same time, the aim is to discuss alternatives to a dominant sustainability discourse and development concepts. Inequalities and power structures in the context of North-South interdependencies are also considered.”
