The Understanding Slavery Initiative is a project in the United Kingdom that seeks to promote, in collaboration with archives and museum collections, quality and quantity of learning and teaching about transatlantic slavery.
Within the last few years, the organization has collaborated with different museums, developed various teaching methods and implemented creative teaching units, especially in schools.
The focus of the initiative’s work is to help people understand that the history of transatlantic human trafficking and its effects in the present do not only affect individual groups of people or specific nations. Instead, attention should be drawn to the global and comprehensive impacts of the enslavement trade.
