5264263200001Z“Decolonize Munich” is the catalog for the exhibition of the same name, which was on view at the Munich City Museum from October 2013 to February 2014. It documents the exhibition, which is unique for Germany, and deals with the questions: How have colonialism and racism inscribed themselves in Munich’s cityscape? How are traces of the colonial past dealt with in the city? In which places do postcolonial conflicts condense? What is debated, what is suppressed and concealed? Who may speak about the global history of the city? Whose stories are heard, whose life traces perceived? What does decolonizing mean today?

The catalog also deals with the extensive racism-critical accompanying program of the exhibition, with events and workshops. The volume continues to map reactions, criticisms, controversies, and visions, and to incorporate exhibition themes and debates on postcolonial history and the present.

Decolonize Munich” was implemented in cooperation with the Munich City Museum and the Cultural Department of the City of Munich.
