In her lecture “Looking at the Suffering of ‘Others’ – Flight, Solidarity and Postcolonial Social Work” María Do Mar Castro Varela describes how we can come to a new humanism via the deconstruction of current images of flight and migration. Almost casually, Castro Varela succeeds in introducing postcolonial theories and also describes possibilities for acting in solidarity with the idea of affirmative subversion.
