5794845000001zThis anthology, edited by Maren Ziese and Caroline Gritschke, presents formats and concepts for a new field of practice in cultural education.

The authors of the individual contributions place the following questions at the center of their discussions:
How can people who arrive in Germany fleeing war, persecution, hunger and economic hardship exercise their rights to education and participation in society? What are suitable formats of cultural education to draw attention to the reality of refugees and to establish networking and solidarity?

Contributions come from Maria do Mar Castro Varela and Alisha Heinemann, Sandrine Micossé-Aikins and Bahareh Sharifi, Leila Mousa or Mohammed Jouni and address “compassion, paternalism, solidarity”, the “coloniality of the welcome culture”, the importance of cultural work for refugees based on experiences from Lebanon or state: “We are the future, we stay here.”

Overall, the contributions in the book make clear which attitudes and ways of dealing with flight as a phenomenon in cultural education can open up possibilities for sustainably changing educational and cultural institutions in a critical and difference-sensitive way.
